The complete jamb results is officially out!!
Checking your JAMB result via SMS is the quickest method, especially for candidates without internet access.
This post provides a complete guide on how to check your 2026 JAMB result through SMS, troubleshoot common issues, and plan next steps, helping you apply to schools like Ambrose Alli University (₦165,000–₦350,000; see AAU School Fees 2026).
Step-by-Step Guide to Check JAMB Result via SMS
- Confirm Your Phone Number: Use the same phone number you used to register for JAMB 2026. This ensures JAMB can verify your identity.
- Check Your Airtime Balance: Ensure you have at least ₦50 airtime. JAMB charges ₦50 per SMS request, deducted directly from your balance.
- Compose the SMS: Open your phone’s Messages app and type “UTMERESULT” (no spaces).
- Send to JAMB Shortcode: Send the message to either 55019 or 66019. JAMB provides two numbers to handle network congestion.
- Wait for Response: You’ll receive an SMS within minutes detailing your JAMB score (e.g., “Dear Mr/Miss X, your result is as follows: English: 70, Maths: 65, Total: 260”).
- Save Your Result: Take a screenshot or note down the scores for future reference, as SMS records can be lost.
- Note: If you need a printed result slip, use the online method via the JAMB portal (costs ₦1,500).
Expected SMS Responses from JAMB
- Result Available: “Dear Mr/Miss X, your result is as follows…” with your subject scores and total.
- Result Withheld: “Result Withheld” or “Result withheld pending clarification/documents.” Contact JAMB if this persists.
- Candidate Absent: “Candidate Absent” if JAMB records show you missed the exam.
- Invalid Number: “This phone number was not used for registration” if you use a different number.
- Unauthorized Access: “Invalid Entrance into the Exam Hall” for exam malpractice cases.
Troubleshooting Common SMS Issues
- No Response After Sending SMS?
- Ensure you have at least ₦50 airtime. JAMB won’t respond if your balance is insufficient.
- Confirm you sent “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019, not other numbers.
- Check your network signal—poor connectivity can delay responses. Try again after a few minutes.
- Error Message “This phone number was not used for registration”?
- You must use the exact phone number registered with JAMB. Check your JAMB profile to confirm.
- Result Delayed Beyond 24 Hours?
- JAMB releases results in batches. The 2026 UTME ends on May 5, 2026 (see When Does JAMB End 2026), so later exam takers may face delays.
- Technical glitches at CBT centers, as reported by some candidates on X, may also cause delays. Wait 48 hours and retry.
- Result Withheld?
- This may happen if you haven’t uploaded your O’Level results or due to suspected exam malpractice. Visit a JAMB office with your registration details.
- Contact JAMB Support: Email support@jamb.gov.ng or call 0812-000-0000 for unresolved issues.
What to Do After Checking Your JAMB Result via SMS
- Score 140+? You’re eligible for most state universities (cut-offs 140–200; see State Universities Cut-Off Marks 2026). Prepare for post-UTME screenings.
- Below 140? Consider polytechnics (cut-off: 100–120) or schools like Iconic Open University (no JAMB required).
- Verify Admission Status: Use JAMB CAPS to confirm if you’ve been offered admission (free).
- Plan Your Budget: If admitted, budget for fees (e.g., AAU: ₦165,000–₦350,000 for freshers; link above).
Why Use the SMS Method to Check JAMB Result?
The SMS method is ideal for candidates in rural areas with limited internet access, costing just ₦50 compared to the online method (₦1,500 for printing). It’s fast, with responses typically within minutes, and doesn’t require a smartphone or data.
However, JAMB’s reliance on SMS can be problematic—network issues or insufficient airtime often cause delays, and the ₦50 fee may exclude students in extreme poverty (Nigeria’s minimum wage: ₦30,000/month). Additionally, SMS doesn’t provide a printable slip, which is required for admission clearance.
For a detailed result breakdown, the online method via jamb.gov.ng is recommended. Check your result today and start planning your next steps! Share your score or SMS issues in the comments, and follow us for more updates!
