Admission Tips for State Universities
- Check Your JAMB Score: If you scored below 140, consider schools like Iconic Open University (no JAMB required; see “Iconic Open University Courses and Fees 2026” (#)).
- Prepare for Post-UTME: Most state universities require a post-UTME screening. Aim for a high score to meet departmental cut-offs (e.g., Medicine: 200+).
- Verify Cut-Offs: Confirm exact cut-offs on the university’s website, as they may change (e.g., DELSU’s reported 170 vs. 180 confusion).
- Consider Less Competitive Courses: Courses like Education and Agriculture often have lower cut-offs (140).
- Budget for Fees: State universities are pricier than federal ones (e.g., LASU fees: ₦150,000–₦300,000/year) but cheaper than many private universities.
Why State Universities?
State universities balance affordability and accessibility, with fees often ranging from ₦100,000 to ₦300,000 annually, compared to federal universities (₦30,000–₦100,000) or private ones (₦500,000–₦3,000,000). However, cut-off marks for competitive courses like Medicine and Law (200+) can be challenging, especially at schools like LASU (190 general cut-off).
The JAMB baseline of 140 ensures inclusivity, but high demand pushes cut-offs higher in popular institutions. Check your JAMB result (released starting April 28, 2026) and apply strategically! Share your target school in the comments, and follow us for more updates!
