How to Check Your JAMB Result 2026 — Online, SMS & What to Do Next

Last Updated on 1 month ago by Haruna Ayuba

The 2026 UTME runs from Thursday, April 16 to Saturday, April 25, 2026. JAMB typically releases results within 48 hours after each exam day — so if you wrote on April 16, expect your result by April 18. If you wrote on April 25, expect it by April 27. Results are released in batches — not all at once.

This guide shows you exactly how to check your score online and by SMS, what every result status message means, and the most important steps to take immediately after your score drops.

Key Highlights

• Result release: Within 48 hours of your exam date — released in batches
• SMS method: Send UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019 — costs ₦50
• Online method: slipsprinting.jamb.gov.ng/CheckUTMEResults — free to view
• Result slip printing: Via efacility.jamb.gov.ng — approximately ₦1,000–₦1,500
• Minimum score (universities): 150 | Nursing: 140 | Polytechnics/COE: 100
• Result validity: 2026/2027 session only — expires after one year
• Total candidates: Over 2.2 million candidates are sitting the 2026 UTME
• Scam warning: JAMB has warned that any candidate found engaging with groups claiming to facilitate score inflation will have their registration cancelled or results withheld

Method 1 — Check by SMS (Works on Any Phone, No Internet Needed)

This is the fastest method and works on any phone — including basic phones without internet access.

Step 1: Open your phone’s messaging app

Step 2: Type exactly this — all capitals, no spaces:

UTMERESULT

Step 3: Send it to 55019 or 66019

Step 4: Wait 2–5 minutes for JAMB’s reply

⚠️ Critical: You must send from the same phone number you used to generate your JAMB profile code. If you send from a different number, the system will not recognise you and will not return your result. The SMS costs ₦50 — make sure you have at least ₦100 airtime before sending.

What a successful reply looks like:

Dear [Your Name], your UTME result is as follows:
English: [score] | [Subject 2]: [score] | [Subject 3]: [score] | [Subject 4]: [score]
Total: [your score]/400

Screenshot this immediately and save it. SMS records can be deleted accidentally.

Method 2 — Check Online (Free to View, Printable)

Step 1: Open any browser on your phone or computer

Step 2: Go to: slipsprinting.jamb.gov.ng/CheckUTMEResults

Step 3: Enter your JAMB Registration Number — the number given to you during registration

Step 4: Your score for each subject and your total will display on screen

Step 5 (Optional): To print your official result slip, log into efacility.jamb.gov.ng, make the payment of approximately ₦1,000–₦1,500, and download your slip

Important: The free online score and the SMS score are the same number. However, your printed result slip is what most universities require for Post-UTME screening and admission processing. Print it before going anywhere near a university admissions office.

Forgot Your Registration Number?

If you do not have your registration number handy, you can log into your JAMB profile at portal.jamb.gov.ng using your email address and password to retrieve it. You can also send the word RETRIEVE as a text message to 55019 from your registered phone number and JAMB will reply with your registration details.

What Every Result Status Message Means

This is the section most result checker articles skip — and it’s the section students need most when something goes wrong.

✅ “Your result is as follows…”

Your result is out and intact. Screenshot it, write down your score, and move to the “What to Do Next” section below.

⏳ “Result Not Yet Available”

This message appears when JAMB has not finished processing your particular examination session. Your result is coming — just not ready yet. Check back every 6 hours. Most results that show “not yet available” appear within 24–72 hours. Do not panic. Do not pay anyone to “speed it up.”

🔒 “Result Withheld”

JAMB has flagged your result for review. Possible reasons include a suspected irregularity, a data issue, or a biometric problem at the exam centre. Withheld does not mean cancelled. JAMB will communicate what to do next. Log into your profile at efacility.jamb.gov.ng to check if they have requested any documents. Upload whatever is requested immediately — your result stays withheld until you comply. Do not pay anyone who tells you they can fix a withheld result for money. That is a scam.

❌ “Candidate Absent”

This appears when JAMB’s system shows you did not attend the examination. If you know you wrote the exam, this usually means the biometric verification did not work properly during your examination — your fingerprints may not have captured correctly, or there was a system error at your centre. Visit the nearest JAMB office with your examination slip and explain the situation. They will investigate and resolve it. Do not sit at home hoping it will fix itself.

❌ “Invalid Registration Number”

Double-check the number you entered. Your registration number is on your JAMB exam slip. If you have lost your slip, send RETRIEVE to 55019 from your registered number.

Lost Your Registered SIM Before Checking Results?

If your SIM gets lost, damaged, or deactivated before results come out, checking by SMS becomes impossible from that number. In this situation, log into your JAMB profile at portal.jamb.gov.ng using your email address and password — this is your alternative access route. If you cannot access the portal either, visit an accredited JAMB CBT centre for assistance with the profiled email recovery process.

When Will 2026 JAMB Results Be Released?

JAMB has not officially confirmed a specific date for the main UTME result release. Based on how JAMB has handled results in previous years, most candidates can realistically expect their scores to become available somewhere between late April and mid-May 2026.

Results come out in batches — candidates who wrote on April 16 can expect their results by April 18, while candidates who wrote on April 25 can expect their results by April 27.

Exam Date	Expected Result Date
April 16	Around April 18
April 17–18	Around April 19–20
April 22–23	Around April 24–25
April 24–25	Around April 27–28

JAMB does not always announce a specific result date in advance — results often drop without prior notice. Check the portal and SMS regularly rather than waiting for someone to tell you the result is out. Do not rely on WhatsApp groups or unverified websites making early claims.

What Your Score Means — At a Glance

The general JAMB cut-off mark is 150 for universities and 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education. However, individual universities and courses set their own cut-off marks, which are usually much higher. Medicine typically requires 260–300+, Law needs 250–280+, Engineering 220–260+, while courses like Economics or Mass Communication need 200–240+.

Score Range	What It Means
280 and above	Competitive for most courses at top federal universities
220 – 279	Qualifies for most state and private universities
180 – 219	Qualifies for many state universities and most private universities
150 – 179	Meets national minimum for universities — school-dependent
140 – 149	Qualifies for colleges of nursing
100 – 139	Qualifies for polytechnics and colleges of education
Below 100	Below national minimum for tertiary institutions

These are general ranges. Always check your specific institution’s cut-off for your course before drawing conclusions from your score.

What to Do Immediately After Checking Your Result

This is the step most students delay — and delays cost admissions. Move on these as soon as your score is confirmed.

1. Screenshot and save your result

Do this before anything else. Save to your phone gallery and send to your email.

2. Print your official result slip

Log into efacility.jamb.gov.ng and print your slip. This is what universities ask for — not a screenshot.

3. Check JAMB CAPS for admission offers

Log into your JAMB profile and open the CAPS (Central Admissions Processing System) dashboard. Monitor CAPS for any admission offer from your chosen institution. Responding quickly to offers on CAPS is important because offer windows can close.

4. Check your institution’s Post-UTME announcement

Visit your chosen university’s official website. Post-UTME screening forms are typically released 4–8 weeks after UTME results. Do not miss the form sale window.

5. Upload your O’Level results if you haven’t

Log into your JAMB profile and upload your WAEC or NECO results via the CAPS portal. Institutions cannot process your admission without this step completed.

6. If your score is lower than expected

Do not rush into a decision. Read our guide on your full options: change of institution, Direct Entry, or retaking JAMB 2027 — all three are available to you.

Frequently Asked Questions — JAMB Result 2026

Is the 2026 JAMB result out?

The 2026 UTME is currently running from April 16–25, 2026. Results are released in batches within 48 hours of each exam date. If you have written your exam, check the SMS method or online portal now.

How do I check my JAMB result by SMS?

Send UTMERESULT (no space, all caps) to 55019 or 66019 using the exact phone number you registered with. The SMS costs ₦50. Your scores will arrive within 2–5 minutes.

Is JAMB result checking free?

Viewing your score online or via SMS is effectively free (SMS costs ₦50 airtime). Printing your official result slip at efacility.jamb.gov.ng costs approximately ₦1,000–₦1,500.

What does “result withheld” mean?

It means JAMB has flagged your result for review — not that it is cancelled. Log into efacility.jamb.gov.ng to check what documents JAMB is requesting and upload them immediately. Do not pay agents claiming to resolve this.

How long is my 2026 JAMB result valid?

Your UTME result is valid only for the 2026/2027 academic session. It cannot be used for 2027/2028 admission — you would need to retake the exam.

Can someone promise to give me a higher JAMB score?

No. JAMB has confirmed that claims from individuals or groups on WhatsApp promising to facilitate score inflation are false and criminal. Any candidate found to have engaged in such activities will have their registration cancelled or results withheld.

I wrote the exam but my result shows “Absent” — what happened?

This is a biometric issue at your exam centre. Go to the nearest JAMB office with your exam slip immediately. Do not wait — JAMB investigates and resolves these cases but you must report it yourself.

Final Thoughts

Your 2026 JAMB result will be available within 48 hours of the day you wrote your exam — check the SMS method first since it works on any phone without internet. Once your score is confirmed, move immediately: print your result slip, check JAMB CAPS, and start monitoring your university’s Post-UTME announcement.

The admission process moves fast after results drop, and the candidates who act quickly are the ones who secure their spots. Bookmark jamb.gov.ng and efacility.jamb.gov.ng — these are your only official sources. Ignore any website, agent, or WhatsApp group claiming to have your result early or offering to improve your score.
