McPherson University Courses and Requirements 2026/2027

Make this easier to read

McPherson University offers Nursing Science, Law, Medical Laboratory Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Accounting and other undergraduate courses. Its published departmental requirements generally specify five relevant O’Level credits in not more than two sittings, alongside the correct UTME subjects or an accepted Direct Entry qualification. The required subjects differ by programme.

Medical Physics also appears on an official undergraduate requirements page, but it has no separate entry in the 2026/2027 fee schedule checked. Applicants should confirm its current admission availability and fees.

Data Science has an official programme page but is also absent from that fee schedule. Its omission from the fee table should not be mistaken for proof that the course is unavailable.

Some programme names differ across university documents:

  • Finance appears in the departmental table; the fee schedule’s notes also use Banking and Finance.
  • English and Literary Studies appears on the departmental page, while the fee schedule uses Languages.
  • Religion and Peace Studies also appears as Peace and Religion Studies.

Use the exact programme name on your application portal and admission offer.

General Admission Requirements

Admission depends on meeting both the university’s requirements and the conditions for your chosen course.

For the UTME route, check that:

  1. You have the required O’Level credits.
  2. Your results meet the permitted number of sittings.
  3. Your UTME subjects match the programme.
  4. Your score meets the applicable admission threshold.
  5. You complete the university’s application and screening process.

The university’s published college tables generally allow a maximum of two O’Level sittings.

However, Mathematics is not explicitly listed in every humanities programme’s departmental requirements. Do not assume that the same five subjects apply to Nursing, English, Accounting and every other course.

For 2026/2027 registration, the university requires a JAMB result showing McPherson University as first choice. Candidates who initially chose another institution are instructed to change to McPherson and reprint their JAMB result.

Nursing and Allied Health Sciences Requirements

O’Level Requirements

The official Allied Health Sciences page specifies the following five credits for all four programmes below:

  • English Language.
  • Mathematics.
  • Biology.
  • Chemistry.
  • Physics.

The credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings.

Health Information ManagementUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Economics

The Economics option is published for Public Health and Health Information Management. It is not listed as an alternative to Physics for Nursing or Medical Laboratory Science.

Also, choosing Economics in UTME does not remove the O’Level Physics requirement stated for Public Health and Health Information Management.

Direct Entry Requirements

ProgrammeQualifications listed by the college
Nursing ScienceTwo A’Level passes in Biology and Chemistry, graded A–E; relevant OND/HND in Medical or Biological Sciences; or a Registered Nurse or Midwifery certificate, subject to the other admission conditions

Health Information ManagementRelevant A’Level passes; specified nursing, community health or environmental health qualifications; relevant NCE qualifications with at least Merit; or OND in Biological Sciences

Direct Entry candidates must still satisfy the relevant O’Level requirements.

For Public Health and Health Information Management, the page names NCE areas including Physical/Health Education, Home Economics, Science Education and Nutrition. Ask admissions to assess your exact certificate rather than assuming every health-related qualification qualifies.

Natural and Applied Science Requirements

The university publishes requirements for the following science programmes. Some entries contain incomplete or inconsistent wording, which is identified below.

O’Level Requirements

ProgrammePublished subject requirements

Industrial MathematicsThe page names English Language, Mathematics, Physics, two Science subjects and a trade subject despite referring to five credits; the exact requirement needs clarification
MicrobiologyThe O’Level row does not provide a clear, complete five-subject combination; obtain confirmation before relying on it

These entries specify no more than two sittings.

JAMB Subject Combinations

ProgrammeFour UTME subjects
BiochemistryUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics
MicrobiologyUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics
BiotechnologyUse of English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry
Industrial ChemistryUse of English, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, Agricultural Science or Mathematics
Industrial MathematicsUse of English, Mathematics, and two of Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Biology or Agricultural Science
Medical PhysicsUse of English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics

Direct Entry Requirements

The published A’Level routes include:

  • Biochemistry: Two relevant passes, particularly Biology and Chemistry.
  • Microbiology: Chemistry and one of Biology, Zoology or Botany.
  • Biotechnology: Two relevant passes, with Biology, Chemistry and Physics listed among the relevant subjects.
  • Industrial Chemistry: Chemistry and one of Mathematics, Physics or Biology.
  • Industrial Mathematics: Two relevant passes, with Mathematics, Physics, Economics and Chemistry listed.
  • Medical Physics: Two passes from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology.

The page also lists diploma, NCE, JUPEB and other routes for some programmes. Their subject relevance and minimum grades differ, so applicants should confirm the conditions for their exact qualification.

Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Other Computing Courses

McPherson’s current programme catalogue lists:

  • B.Sc. Computer Science.
  • B.Sc. Cybersecurity.
  • B.Sc. Information Technology.
  • B.Sc. Software Engineering.
  • B.Sc. Data Science.

However, the individual programme pages checked describe the courses without providing a complete O’Level, UTME and Direct Entry requirements table.

Applicants should obtain the exact subject combination and qualification requirements from admissions or the current JAMB brochure. Do not assume that all five programmes accept identical subjects.

This is particularly important for Data Science, which is listed in the programme catalogue but has no separate fee entry in the undergraduate schedule reviewed.

McPherson University Law Requirements

Law appears in the university’s official 2026/2027 undergraduate fee schedule.

However, a complete current Law admission-requirements table could not be verified from the official pages checked. Before applying, confirm:

  • The required O’Level subjects and permitted sittings.
  • The exact UTME combination.
  • The applicable admission score.
  • Accepted Direct Entry qualifications and minimum grades.

A general Law requirement copied from another university should not be treated as McPherson’s confirmed rule.

What Is McPherson University’s Cut-Off Mark?

A numerical 2026/2027 institutional or departmental cut-off mark could not be verified from the official admission and programme pages reviewed.

Do not treat a figure on an unofficial course directory as a confirmed Nursing, Law or university-wide threshold.

Ask admissions for the requirement for your chosen programme. Meeting the minimum score also does not replace the correct O’Level subjects, UTME combination or screening requirements.

Does McPherson University Accept Two Sittings?

Yes. The published Allied Health Sciences, science, humanities and business requirements reviewed generally permit not more than two sittings.

This includes the Nursing and Medical Laboratory Science entries.

However, two sittings means you can combine results to meet the required subjects. It does not mean you can omit a compulsory subject or replace a required credit with a pass.

Can You Apply Through JUPEB or Direct Entry?

McPherson has Direct Entry routes, but eligibility is programme-specific. Some departments specify two A’Level passes; others require three. Certain courses also accept relevant diplomas, professional qualifications or NCE results.

Do not assume that an ND, NCE or JUPEB qualification automatically qualifies you for every programme. Ask admissions to confirm:

  1. Whether your qualification is accepted.
  2. Whether its subjects match the course.
  3. The required grade or points.
  4. Your entry level.
  5. Any outstanding O’Level requirements.

How to Apply

The university’s current application instructions direct applicants to:

  1. Visit the official McPherson University application portal.
  2. Create an account and log in.
  3. Pay the applicable application charge through the official process.
  4. Complete the form with accurate academic and personal details.
  5. Submit and print the acknowledgement slip.
  6. Check their email for further instructions.

Use the official admissions page to confirm the process. The university states that it has not authorised external agents to offer admission or collect payments on its behalf.

Check the Cost Before Choosing a Course

Admission eligibility is only one part of choosing a programme. Tuition, compulsory levies, accommodation and fresh-student charges can substantially change the amount you need.

See our McPherson University school fees guide for the fee breakdown.

For unresolved subject requirements or qualification checks, contact the university through admission@mcu.edu.ng or 09078467666.

Source note: This guide draws on McPherson University’s official programme catalogue, college admission tables, 2026/2027 undergraduate fee schedule and registration instructions. Requirements checked on 22 October 2026. Incomplete or conflicting official entries are identified beside the affected programme.
