JAMB Admission Deadline 2026: Will Admissions Stop After October 31?

Make this easier to read

The JAMB admission deadline for public universities is 31 October 2026. Private universities have until 30 November 2026, while other tertiary institutions have until 31 December 2026 to complete their 2026/2027 admissions.

JAMB will not stop all admissions after 31 October. That deadline applies to federal and state universities. Other institution categories have later deadlines under the approved schedule. JAMB reaffirmed these dates when it announced the restoration of its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) in September.

JAMB Admission Deadlines for 2026/2027

Institution categoryDeadline to conclude admissions
Federal and state universities31 October 2026
Private universities30 November 2026
Other tertiary institutions, including polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education31 December 2026

These are deadlines for institutions to conclude admission processing. They are different from a school’s Post-UTME application deadline, acceptance-fee deadline or registration deadline.

JAMB’s September statement on the admission schedule also placed the overall end of the 2026/2027 admission exercise at 31 December 2026. That final date does not give public universities an automatic extension until December.

Will JAMB Stop Giving Admission After 31 October?

No, not across all institutions. Private universities and other tertiary institutions have admission windows extending beyond October.

For applicants to public universities, however, 31 October is the deadline to work with unless JAMB officially changes it. The board reaffirmed the October deadline after the CAPS disruption and instructed institutions to accelerate their admission processing.

There is also a difference between an admission-processing deadline and the entire CAPS website shutting down. Being able to log in after 31 October does not prove that a public university has permission to continue making fresh admission recommendations.

If your public university admission is still pending, contact its admission office to establish whether your recommendation has reached JAMB and what remains outstanding. A general assurance that “JAMB will still give admission” does not resolve your individual application.

Has JAMB Extended the 2026 Admission Deadline?

As of 31 October 2026, no approved extension was identified in the announcements reviewed for this update. The published deadline for public universities remains 31 October.

On 28 October, House Committee on Basic Education Chairman Oboku Oforji called on JAMB to extend the university admission deadlines. His appeal sought more time for institutions and candidates to complete outstanding admission procedures.

An appeal for an extension is not an approved extension. Candidates should act on the existing schedule until JAMB announces a revised date.

What If CAPS Still Shows “Not Admitted” or “Admission in Progress”?

Neither message is a completed admission offer. If your school has shortlisted you but CAPS has not changed to “Admitted”, check the outstanding stages immediately.

JAMB’s official admission-support guidance identifies three checks:

  1. Confirm your O’Level results are uploaded and verified. Check the results attached to your JAMB record, particularly if you initially applied with awaiting results.
  2. Ask whether your institution has formally recommended you to JAMB. Appearing on a school’s list does not tell you whether that recommendation has completed the CAPS process.
  3. Check Transfer Approval. An unanswered course-transfer proposal may require your decision before the institution can proceed.

JAMB explains that the status changes to “Admitted” after the institution recommends the candidate and the board approves the recommendation. “Admission in Progress” should therefore not be treated as a completed offer or a promise of approval before the deadline.

When contacting your school, provide your JAMB registration number, course and current CAPS status. Ask specifically: “Has my admission been recommended to JAMB, and is any requirement still outstanding?”

What to Do If You Have Already Been Offered Admission

Respond to your offer promptly through the authorised JAMB acceptance process. Then follow your university’s instructions for acceptance fees, clearance and registration.

The 2026 policy meeting provided a four-week window for accepting approved admission offers. JAMB also warned that unaccepted offers could be deleted at the institution’s request. This acceptance window is separate from the timetable for institutions to complete admissions; it is not permission for schools to continue admitting beyond their deadline.

Check the instructions attached to your offer and complete the required steps without waiting for the last day. Paying a university’s acceptance fee should not be treated as a substitute for completing JAMB’s admission-acceptance process.

Can You Still Seek Admission Elsewhere After October 31?

Yes. The approved schedule leaves later admission windows for private universities and other tertiary institutions. However, a national deadline does not mean every school in that category is still accepting applications.

Before changing your institution, confirm:

  • The school is still accepting applicants for your intended programme.
  • You meet its UTME, O’Level and screening requirements.
  • It can consider a change-of-institution candidate within the remaining time.
  • You can meet its fees and registration requirements.

Get that confirmation before paying for a change. A school may close applications or fill its available places before the national deadline.

Does October 31 Mean Already Admitted Students Must Finish Registration?

The announced date concerns the conclusion of public university admissions. Your institution sets its own instructions for clearance, fee payment and student registration.

If you have already accepted your admission, follow the deadlines in your school’s admission notice and portal. Do not replace those dates with a general JAMB deadline found online.

For a pending offer, start with your JAMB e-Facility account and your institution’s admission office. If an unresolved JAMB issue remains, submit the details through the official JAMB support platform.
