The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), located in Kaduna, Nigeria, is a federal tertiary institution established in 2018, focusing on aerospace engineering, technology, and military-related education. AFIT offers both degree and ND programs across five faculties: Air and Ground Engineering, Computing, Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, and the School of Postgraduate Studies.
It is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), serving as the Air Force’s premier institution for technical education. For the 2026/2027 academic session, AFIT’s JAMB cut-off marks are 200 for degree programs and 160 for ND programs, as confirmed by recent admission guidelines.
This post provides a detailed breakdown of AFIT’s cut-off marks for all courses, admission requirements, and application tips, compared to options like ATBU (cut-off: 160).

AFIT Admission Requirements for 2026/2027
- JAMB Requirement: Minimum score of 200 for degree programs and 160 for ND programs. Check your result now (see How to Check JAMB Result via SMS 2026).
- O’Level Requirement: Five credits, including English and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings (WAEC, NECO, or equivalent). Relevant subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are required for Engineering and Sciences; Economics is key for Social Sciences.
- Post-UTME Screening: AFIT conducts a Post-UTME screening for all candidates. Degree programs typically require a minimum score of 50%–60%, while ND programs require 45%–50%.
- Direct Entry: Candidates with ND, HND, or A’Level qualifications (e.g., IJMB, JUPEB) can apply for 200-level admission into degree programs. A minimum of 10 points in IJMB is often required for Engineering courses.
- Application Process: Apply via jamb.gov.ng, select AFIT as your first choice, and participate in the Post-UTME screening. Visit afit.edu.ng for screening dates and registration details.
Tips to Meet AFIT Cut-Off Marks
- Aim for the Right Score: For degree programs like Aerospace Engineering, target a JAMB score of 200 or above to meet the cut-off. ND candidates should aim for at least 160.
- Prepare for Post-UTME: AFIT’s Post-UTME covers English, Mathematics, and program-specific subjects (e.g., Physics for Engineering). Practice past questions from federal institutions to score above 60% for degree programs.
- Consider ND Programs: If your JAMB score is below 200, opt for an ND program (cut-off: 160) and later transition to a degree via Direct Entry.
- Verify O’Level Results: Ensure your results meet the subject requirements (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics for Engineering).
Why Choose AFIT?
AFIT’s cut-off marks (200 for degrees, 160 for ND) balance accessibility with academic rigor, ensuring quality education in technical fields. Its focus on aerospace, engineering, and computing aligns with Nigeria’s need for skilled professionals in technology and defense sectors.
AFIT’s military affiliation provides unique opportunities, such as potential career paths in the Nigerian Air Force, but the higher cut-off for degree programs (200) may challenge candidates with lower JAMB scores.
Compared to ATBU (general cut-off: 160), AFIT’s degree programs have a stricter threshold, reflecting its specialized focus. The Post-UTME screening ensures only prepared candidates are admitted, but candidates should monitor afit.edu.ng for screening dates and updates.
Does AFIT’s cut-off mark of 200 for degrees meet your expectations?
