Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) offers courses including Accounting, Computer Science, Biochemistry, Civil Engineering, Mass Communication, Nursing Science, Law and Pharmacy. Undergraduate applicants need at least five relevant O’Level credits, including English Language, and must satisfy their course’s subject requirements and admission screening conditions.
For 2026/2027 applicants, newer admission notices contain programmes missing from older course lists. This guide separates the available course information, published departmental requirements and details that still require confirmation.

Does AKSU Offer Medicine and Surgery?
Recent reports announce AKSU admission into Medicine and Surgery for 2026/2027. Reports published on 19–20 October 2026 describe an MBBS screening exercise for first-choice candidates with a UTME score of at least 290, with registration scheduled for 20–28 October 2026.
However, CampusNinja could not independently retrieve that announcement from AKSU’s website during this check. Prospective applicants should confirm the programme and screening conditions through the university before paying.
This means older articles stating that AKSU does not offer Medicine should not be relied on without checking the newer announcement.

General AKSU Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet both the university’s general entry conditions and the requirements for their chosen course.
For the full-time undergraduate route, check that you have:
- At least five relevant O’Level credits, including English Language.
- The required O’Level subjects for your intended programme.
- The correct UTME subject combination, if applying through UTME.
- The applicable admission-session and programme cut-off.
- AKSU as your first-choice institution, as required by its screening notices.
- Completed the relevant AKSU screening registration.
Direct Entry candidates also need an acceptable qualification in a relevant subject area.
The university’s general admissions page contains older score references. Use the notice for your exact session and programme when checking numerical thresholds.
AKSU O’Level Requirements by Course
The following requirements come from AKSU’s published faculty pages. They are useful course-specific guidance, but the pages are not all labelled for 2026/2027. Any newer, programme-specific admission notice takes priority.
Biological Sciences
For Biochemistry, Botany, Genetics and Biotechnology, Marine Biology, Microbiology and Zoology, AKSU’s Faculty of Biological Sciences lists credits in these five subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
A credit in Agricultural Science should not automatically be treated as a replacement for Biology in these programmes.

Arts and Humanities
| Course | Published O’Level credit requirements |
|---|---|
| English | English Language, Literature in English and three other relevant subjects |
| Performing Arts | English Language, Literature in English and three other Arts subjects |
| Philosophy | English Language, Mathematics and three other subjects |
| History and International Studies | English Language, Geography, History or Government, and two other subjects |
| Religious and Cultural Studies | English Language, Christian Religious Knowledge and three other relevant subjects |
The faculty page allows not more than two sittings for these entries.
These requirements should not be transferred automatically to French, Music or the separately listed History programme.

Management and Administration
| Course | Published O’Level credit requirements |
|---|---|
| Accounting | English Language, Mathematics, Economics or Accounting, and two other subjects |
| Business Administration | English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other subjects |
| Marketing | English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects |
| Public Administration | English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects |
AKSU’s faculty page specifies a maximum of two sittings.
The Accounting entry permits Economics or Accounting. That exception should not be applied to Business Administration, Marketing or Public Administration without confirmation.

Agriculture: Check Physics Requirements Carefully
AKSU’s Agriculture faculty page publishes different subject conditions across its programmes. For example:
- Agricultural Economics and Extension: credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Geography or Economics; at least a pass in Physics.
- Soil Science: credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology or Agricultural Science.
- Fisheries and Aquaculture: credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics, Geography or Economics.
However, the university’s 2025/2026 supplementary advert used a stricter shared Agriculture requirement that included a Physics credit.
If you have only a pass in Physics, obtain confirmation for your exact course and admission session before relying on the faculty-page exception.

AKSU JAMB Subject Combinations
Your O’Level subjects and your four UTME subjects are different requirements. Meeting one does not automatically mean you meet the other.
AKSU’s indexed 2024/2025 departmental subject document contains the combinations below. They are previous-session reference information, not a verified replacement for the 2026/2027 requirements.
| Course | Published UTME combination |
|---|---|
| Biochemistry | English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics |
| Botany; Genetics and Biotechnology | English, Biology, Chemistry and another Science subject |
| Marine Biology | English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics |
| Microbiology | English, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Physics |
| Zoology | English, Biology and two of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics |
| English | English, Literature in English, one Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subject |
| History and International Studies | English, History or Government, and two Arts or Social Science subjects |
| Performing Arts | English, Literature in English and two other relevant subjects |
The university’s download link returned an error during this check, although the document remained indexed. Confirm the current combination through JAMB IBASS and AKSU before registering or changing courses.
AKSU Direct Entry Requirements
AKSU’s general admissions information recognises relevant A’Level, OND and NCE qualifications, alongside the required O’Level credits.
The reproduced 2026/2027 screening notice also requests qualification documents such as HND, ND, NCE and A’Level certificates from Direct Entry applicants.
However, a certificate appearing on a screening checklist does not mean every department accepts it. Before applying, confirm:
- Whether your intended course accepts your qualification.
- The required subject area.
- The minimum grade, credit classification or points.
- Whether that course is admitting Direct Entry candidates for the session.
A complete current departmental Direct Entry grade table could not be verified. There is therefore no basis for claiming that one ND grade or one A’Level points total qualifies an applicant for every AKSU course.
What Is the AKSU Cut-Off Mark?
The reproduced 2026/2027 general screening advert states 150 as the minimum UTME score for eligible first-choice applicants.
That is a screening eligibility threshold, not a guaranteed admission score for every programme. The separately reported 2026/2027 MBBS exercise specifies 290.
Do not carry older Law, Nursing, Pharmacy or Architecture thresholds into a new session without checking the applicable notice. AKSU previously issued separate notices with different requirements for these programmes.
Requirements Still Needing Course-Specific Confirmation
The sources checked did not provide a complete current O’Level, UTME and Direct Entry matrix covering every newer programme.
This affects courses such as French, Music, Agribusiness, Food Science and Technology, newer Engineering programmes, several administrative and security-related courses, and the newer health and professional programmes.
Do not assume that:
- All health courses use identical entry conditions.
- Every Engineering course accepts the same fifth O’Level subject.
- Mathematics and Education and Mathematics are interchangeable.
- Computer Science and Computer Engineering have identical requirements.
- A course appearing in an earlier advert still has spaces in a supplementary exercise.
How to Confirm Your Eligibility Before Applying
- Find the exact course name. Use the name shown by AKSU and JAMB, especially where older and newer names differ.
- Check your five O’Level credits. Compare the individual subjects, not just the number of credits.
- Check the UTME combination or Direct Entry qualification.
- Read the notice for your admission session and programme.
- Use the official AKSU undergraduate portal when completing screening.
AKSU also provides an official portal directory for undergraduate, postgraduate, JUPEB and continuing-education services. Choose the route that matches the programme you want to study.
