FG Proposes 2027 Exam Timetable: JAMB March 15–25, WAEC and NECO Dates Listed

The Federal Government has proposed 15–25 March 2027 for JAMB UTME, 1 April–14 May for NECO SSCE, and 11 May–18 June for WAEC WASSCE as part of a plan to coordinate Nigeria’s major examinations.

The plan targets August 2027 for the release of school-leaving examination results, allowing eligible candidates to begin tertiary admission processes by September. UTME results have a separate proposed release window of March 2027.

The Federal Ministry of Education outlined the schedule in a press release dated 14 October 2026.

These are proposed examination dates. The notice does not contain individual subject timetables, JAMB registration dates or candidates’ examination appointments.

Proposed 2027 Examination Timetable

The proposed schedule covers five examination bodies:

ExaminationProposed start dateProposed end dateProposed results window
JAMB UTME15 March 202725 March 2027March 2027
NECO SSCE1 April 202714 May 2027August 2027
WAEC WASSCE11 May 202718 June 2027August 2027
NABTEB1 June 20275 July 2027August 2027
NBAIS10 June 20279 July 2027August 2027

The table gives overall examination periods. It does not show when a particular subject, practical or candidate’s UTME session will take place.

Why the Government Is Coordinating the Examinations

The Ministry wants examination bodies to align their schedules, reduce timetable clashes and release results in time for tertiary admissions.

According to the statement, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, convened a meeting with heads and representatives of examination bodies at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

The discussions covered examination scheduling, results processing and timely release of results.

For students taking school-leaving examinations and seeking admission in the same year, the intended benefit is straightforward: having their results available when they need to proceed with admission.

However, the August results window remains a target in the proposed arrangement.

What This Means for JAMB 2027 Candidates

The proposed UTME period is 15–25 March 2027, with results also targeted for March.

Students can use that proposed window to organise their preparation. It should not be treated as a personal examination appointment: the notice does not assign any candidate a date, time or centre.

It also does not announce:

  • When JAMB 2027 registration will open or close.
  • Registration fees.
  • The mock examination date.
  • Examination slip reprinting dates.

An examination timetable proposal is not a registration announcement. Candidates should look for JAMB’s specific instructions before making registration or travel arrangements.

What WAEC and NECO Candidates Should Notice

Under the proposal, NECO SSCE would begin on 1 April and end on 14 May, while WAEC WASSCE would run from 11 May to 18 June.

That means NECO would start before WAEC under this proposed arrangement. Students planning to take both should keep this order in mind when drawing up their revision plans.

The two examination windows also overlap from 11–14 May.

An overlap in the overall examination periods does not automatically mean that two subjects will be written at the same time. The detailed paper timetables are needed to establish whether there is a clash affecting any candidate.

The Ministry says reducing timetable clashes is one of the aims of the coordination exercise. The broad schedule alone does not show how individual papers will be arranged.

Does This Mean Admission or Resumption Starts in September?

The Ministry’s stated goal is to allow eligible candidates to commence admission processes by September 2027.

That is different from announcing that every university, polytechnic or college will resume in September.

The notice does not provide institution-specific screening dates, admission deadlines or resumption calendars. Students will still need the relevant announcements from their chosen institutions.

Likewise, August is the proposed results window for NECO, WAEC, NABTEB and NBAIS. The notice does not give a specific release day for any of them.

How to Plan Your Reading Around the Proposed Dates

If you intend to take UTME alongside WAEC or NECO, prepare for the examinations together. Waiting until UTME is over before starting all your school-leaving examination revision could leave you with limited time under this proposed schedule.

A practical approach is to:

  1. List the examinations you intend to take. Mark their proposed periods in your study planner.
  2. Identify shared topics across your subjects. Revise those topics while keeping each examination’s syllabus and question format in mind.
  3. Keep time for subjects outside your UTME combination. Do not let UTME preparation push every other school subject aside.
  4. Adjust your plan when detailed timetables become available. Use the actual paper dates to organise your final revision.
  5. Check registration notices separately. This announcement does not provide registration deadlines or payment instructions.

For now, use the proposed dates as a planning guide while awaiting the examination bodies’ detailed instructions.
